Marcus and Lisa
Freedom in Ordinary Life

Alongside my individual work, I work with my husband, Marcus, exploring the nature of who we are through self-enquiry, meditation and the body.

Although we came to this in very different ways, over the years our work has increasingly met in the same place.

Beneath so much of our wanting, searching and trying to change ourselves is a longing to be at peace, to feel whole, to come home. We tend to look for that in our circumstances, our relationships, what we achieve or acquire, and even in our attempts to become a better or more spiritual version of ourselves.

But what if what we’re looking for isn’t somewhere further down the road?

What if it’s already here?

This is what Marcus and I explore together.

Our meetings are an invitation to explore our true nature directly, through self-enquiry, the body, guided exploration, meditation, silence and stillness. There’s nothing you need to believe and no particular experience you’re expected to have.

We explore the familiar sense of being ‘me’, how and where that is actually experienced, and the awareness, silence and stillness that are already present beneath our usual preoccupation with thought. Rather than giving you answers about who or what you are, we invite you to discover this for yourself.

There are several ways to join us.

Explorations in Being

Fortnightly Mondays | 7pm UK | 75 minutes | Online

Explorations in Being grew out of our original Sofa Chats, but the meetings have changed considerably.

Rather than beginning with a problem to solve or something about ourselves that needs changing, we begin with Being.

Each meeting has a particular theme through which we explore the nature of who we are and the possibility that the freedom we’re seeking is already here.

Marcus and I will usually introduce the evening’s exploration, and from there we may move through self-enquiry, guided experiential meditation, attention to the body and periods of silence, with time for questions and reflections.

You’re very welcome to join in with the conversation, but you don’t have to. You can simply come along and listen.

No previous experience of meditation, self-enquiry or non-duality is needed.

Stillness Moving, Silence Sounding

Alternate Mondays | 9am UK | 90 minutes | Online

A quieter way to begin the week.

These morning meetings bring together gentle exploratory movement, contemplation, meditation, silence, stillness and guided relaxation.

We begin with slow, unhurried movement, exploring the body from within and becoming more sensitive to sensation, effort, contraction and ease. At times, we may explore movement first through the sensed or energetic body, before allowing the physical body to follow.

Marcus then offers a short contemplation around the morning’s theme before we sit quietly together for a while, allowing what we’ve been exploring to settle without needing to do anything with it.

We finish with a guided relaxation, giving the body time to rest deeply before we move back into the rest of the day.

This isn’t a yoga class or a conventional meditation class. The movement is gentle and exploratory and can be adapted to your own body and what feels comfortable for you.

No previous experience of meditation, movement or self-enquiry is needed.

More from Marcus & Lisa

If you’d like to explore further, you’ll find more of our work at marcusandlisa.com – Freedom in Ordinary Life.

There you can read our Journal, listen to Marcus’s contemplations and explore guided meditations with me, as well as finding details of all our upcoming meetings and events.

Our work together continues to develop, but the invitation at the centre of it remains very simple: to explore for ourselves whether the freedom, peace and wholeness we spend so much of our lives looking for might already be here.

In-Person Meetings & Day Retreats

There’s something different about exploring together in person. Having a little more time allows us to stay with an enquiry, to move between conversation and silence, and to explore through the body as well as through self-enquiry.

Our in-person gatherings bring together conversation, self-enquiry, embodied exploration, meditation, movement, silence and stillness, with plenty of time simply to be together.

Some gatherings will be a few hours, while our day retreats will give us longer to explore at an unhurried pace, with time to pause, walk, eat together and allow the day to unfold naturally.

We’re planning our first in-person events for later in 2026, with day retreats beginning in 2027. Dates and details will be added as they’re confirmed.
